What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an Apprentice Electronic Fabrication Tradesman
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Plan, layout, fabricate, modify, troubleshoot, repair, test, calibrate and inspection of a wide range of electronic and electro-mechanical equipment utilizing engineering principles in support of a research and development, and/or complex production prototyping environment.
- You will receive hands on training in soldering, complex cabling and harnessing, Printed wire assemblies, PWA, PCB, magnetics, electromechanical assembles, rack systems and tester fabrication learning and display a high level of proficiency in all areas.
- As a condition of employment, Metals Trades positions are represented by the Metal Trades Council (MTC) and represented employees must pay the monthly membership dues or agency fee.
Qualifications We Require:
Degree Requirements for Acceptance into Electronic Fabrication Apprenticeship
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Electronics Technology or Electronics Engineering Technology, or Advanced Systems Technology in Electronics as provided by a Community College or equivalent, with an overall of cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater or 4 years of hands on relevant work history.

- Responsibilities include consulting with requesters on circuity, package design, and performance requirements as follows:
- Designing, developing, and preparing electromechanical layouts and drawings using CAD/CAM software and other computer tools
- The planning, scheduling and fabrication of special test equipment, wiring, harness and cables, cases and chassis, perform complete mechanical, electrical and functional testing and analysis of completed units.
- Work involves utilizing all types of electronic test equipment to develop, setup, and perform qualification and evaluation tests on components and systems.
- Consult and team with other Tradespersons, Mentors and Trainers.
- Collaborate with engineers and serve as a fabrication resource on design and manufacturability issues.
- Utilize a computerized database to maintain required records.
- Perform work using industy standard safety practices. Requirements include compleation of a State approved Electronic Fabrication Trades Apprenticeship Program with the apprenticeable occupation of Electronic Engineering Technician.
- Obtain new and maintain current required electronics fabrication process qualification in order to meet current as well as future business needs.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Experience with AutoCAD
- Good understanding of technical drawings, blueprints and electrical schematics.
- Understanding of ISO Quality Systems Requirements and IPC-A610 acceptability of Electronic Assemblies,
- Experience working in a Microsoft Windows environment.
- Hands on electronics fabrication of 3-5 years of experience.

Security Clearance:

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
