Job Description

Summary

The Scientific Programmer I will play a crucial role in supporting Dr. Sanjay Mathew's research program on matters concerning the research data architecture (collection, management, quality control, and analysis), and computing systems. The scientific programmer will work with the other members of the research team to identify specific needs for each project and then develop, test, and implement strategies to achieve these goals. Daily tasks will include writing and documenting code, preparing standard operating procedures for hardware/software, and advising on third party solutions where necessary.

Job Duties

  • Develops bespoke code and/or software to perform quality control checks on neurophysiology and neuroimaging data
  • Develops dictionaries of SQL queries for the extraction of specific data from the REDCap databases for each study.
  • Maintains a brochure of standard operating procedures for neurophysiological research equipment and related software.
  • Acts as a liasion with the Center for Advanced MRI to develop imaging and analysis protocols for lab neuroimaging studies. Will develop and maintain documentation.
  • Assists senior research staff with coding and testing of data analysis routines for publication, grant pilot data, and other forms of dissemination (including conferences, departmental meetings, and progress reports).
  • Develops, tests, and conducts routines for formatting and uploading data to the NIH National Data Archive. Will be the primary staff member in charge of ensuring that data meets the required standards and is uploaded at the correct time intervals.
  • Prepares standard operating procedures (SOPs) for both hardware and software used in research.
  • Assists other study staff with data collection as required.
  • Provides technical support related to research equipment, hardware, and software to other members of the department.
  • Assists with the maintenance of shared research equipment (EEG, TMS, Viewpix monitor, Digitimer) and help train new members of the department on the proper use of this equipment.
  • Provides training materials for specific and/or bespoke research software to members of the department as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Python, Matlab, Java Script or a related programming language.
  • Experience with database management and SQL preferred.
