As a Cardiac Cath Lab Paramedic, you will assist physicians during invasive cardiovascular and electrophysiology procedures. Your primary duties will include but are not limited to: 

  • Circulating, monitoring, recording, and assisting tableside. 

  • Assisting with patient preparation pre-procedure: Applies EKG and pulse oximetry; Oxygen and IV fluid per order 

  • Assuring proper patient position and privacy for the procedure. 

  • Attending to emotional and physical needs of the patient. 

  • Preparing table for procedure.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist tableside: using sterile technique and universal precautions, sets up manifolds, automatic contrast injectors, use and prepare wires, catheters, balloons and other devices
  • Obtain and records vital signs
  • Initiate cardiac monitoring, notifying physician of any rhythm changes
  • Initiate oxygen therapy
  • Performs phlebotomy and initiates saline locks
  • Fluid and drug administration
  • Performs EKGs
  • Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy and pathology pertaining to procedures.
  • Assist with equipment set up: hemodynamic and pressure monitoring; 12 lead EKG machine, defibrillator, temporary pacemaker, infusion pumps, intra-aortic balloon pump; intravascular ultrasound; embolic protection device; rotational atherectomy system; pulmonary artery catheter; vascular closure devices; hemostasis devices; pericardiocentesis tray
  • Assist with cleaning and maintenance of supplies and equipment
  • Point of care testing: iSTAT/AVOX/ Accu-Chek
  • Support teamwork: communicate and collaborate directly with physician/ monitoring person/ circulating person. Shared decision making with the patient. Engage in sign-in, time-out and sign-out; SBAR
  • Transport patients and specimens
  • Perform CPR

Education:

  • Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic Training Program

Certifications:

  • Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) recommended 3 years from hire

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action  

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as an EMT-P in a critical care setting required

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination, involves wearing heavy protective equipment
  • Medium work-exerting 20-50 pounds of force , and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
