Cleveland Clinic’s Department of Pathology plays a vital role in patient care through disease diagnosis and management. As the Lead Processing Technician, you will accession and manually process laboratory specimens and be expected to perform daily quality assurance activities and routine maintenance of equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs all duties of the Pre Analytics Processing Technicians or Pathology Lab Technicians such as:
  • Performs manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting, and routine maintenance)
  • Prepares specimens for analysis. 
  • Performs problem solving functions and is responsible for advanced problem solving/ issue resolution.
  • Ensures compliance with basic regulations (temperature monitoring).
  • Performs QA activities (pending log audit).
  • Oversees shift operations and manages workflow issues.
  • Adjusts daily schedule as needed.
  • Acts as a technical resource, ensuring SOPs and policies are followed and FVPM of equipment is performed as required.
  • Assists in troubleshooting.
  • Informs management/supervision of issues and ensures appropriate communication between shifts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Associate’s degree required preferably in Science.
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, physics or medical laboratory science preferred.

Certifications:

  • None required

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision.

Work Experience:

  • Two years lab processing experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, physics or medical laboratory science can offset two years of experience.
  • A total of 4 years of lab technician or comparable processing experience may offset the Associate Degree requirement. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform specimen handling techniques and to take measurements
  • Ability to move about the designated work area and ability to travel throughout the hospital campus.
  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods of time. 
  • Handles and transports bio hazardous materials.
  • Visual acuity with the ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation and tones.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as defined in the exposure control plan.
