Position Description
The Wolfson laboratory in the Department of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Research Assistant to assist in the study of the sensory innervation of the gastrointestinal tract. This project utilizes mouse genetics, molecular biology, histological and behavioral approaches to understand internal sensation and pain.The Research Assistant will work under the direction of the PI or other lab members and perform routine lab techniques such as:
- Preparation of lab reagents, chemicals, instruments, and equipment.
- Performs mouse husbandry tasks.
- Performs laboratory experiments utilizing standard techniques and equipment including but not limited to immumohistochemical analysis and mouse behavior.
- Assists in the design of laboratory experiments, techniques, and protocols.
- Processes, organizes, and summarizes data, reporting experiment results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet or statistical software applications or program platforms.
- May process orders or invoices or undertake other clerical and simple accounting duties under the direction of administrative personnel.
- May instruct other staff and students in basic laboratory techniques.
Basic Qualifications
College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline.Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's preferred.
- Ideally would have some wet lab experience.
- Experience with mouse husbandry is preferred but not required, though a willingness to learn mouse husbandry and experimentation is required.
- Must be able to work independently in the lab as well as under the direction of the lead investigator.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise others.
- Ability to work independently and display initiative to introduce innovations to research study.
- Ability to identify problems and develop solutions.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and set deadlines.
Additional Information
This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.Offer contingent upon successful completion of a pre-placement medical evaluation.
