What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you a DevOps Engineer looking to make a meaningful impact on national security? Do you thrive on optimizing infrastructure and supporting stable software and testing environments? We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Development Operations Engineer to join the United States Nuclear Detonation (NUDET) Detection System (USNDS) program, supporting the United States Space Force in its crucial nuclear detonation detection and monitoring missions.

As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in the continuous development cycle of the USNDS system. This system relies on space-based sensor payloads that transmit data to satellite ground systems for mission processing. Working closely with technical leads, you will leverage your expertise in the entire system development lifecycle to align with automation goals and CI/CD practices. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing improvements to the continuous integration pipeline, build and release process, and the system development workflow for large, high-consequence, remote sensing ground systems.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Identify, integrate, and maintain tools to optimize the system workflow and create reproducible environments
  • Enhance configuration management and testing frameworks for software and platform code
  • Drive automation initiatives for continuous integration and continuous delivery, ensuring consistency and maintainability
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in complex testbed and system infrastructures used by multiple development and testing teams
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, and integration test teams to understand requirements, design solutions, and deliver high-quality software applications
  • Mentor and support team members

Salary Range:

$95,400 - $185,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or relevant field plus at least five (5) years of related experience.
  • Experience in software engineering and testing practices for applications written in modern programming languages (e.g. C++, Python, Java).
  • Experience developing in Unix/Linux operating environments.
  • Experience with GitLab and CI/CD pipeline.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active US DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master's degree in relevant technical field
  • Knowledge of configuration management practices
  • Experience in complex, multi-language (e.g. C++, Java, Python) build system
  • Experience in software design, engineering and development skills, including familiarity with modern software development practices and tools
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills leading to solid experience with problem identification, root cause analysis, and implementing solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment, including sound technical communication
  • Experience with build, automation, orchestration, virtualization, continuous integration, and continuous delivery including tools such as Jenkins, Git, Ansible, Docker, vSphere and CMake
  • Certified in any of the following: CAST, ISTQB INCOSE, Security+ and/or RHEL
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python and Bash)
  • Experience in practicing Agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum)
  • Ability to drive technical/IT strategy and solve technical problems
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD)
  • Familiarity with automated verification and validation techniques and technologies
  • Experience creating and running tests to assess compliance with customer requirements
  • Ability to understand, assess and implement processes to meet cyber requirements for computer systems, software, and networks
  • Experience participating with requirements decomposition
  • Experience providing project level effort estimations
  • Ability to develop and manage integrated solution roadmaps
  • Experience with debug tools and techniques for analysis and data collection
  • Experience in real-time processing of sensor data
  • Experience working on one or more US Government programs

The End-to-End Systems Development Department (6369) is a multi-disciplinary organization with a proven track record in development integration and testing, evaluation, maintainability, deployment, and ultimate decommission of large complex systems. By combining our capabilities, we play a major role in ensuring compliance to functional requirements for large, high-consequence, high-rigor, remote sensing ground systems. Our mission is to revolutionize how we take requirements through testing and deployment to effectively and efficiently modernize, optimize and automate projects and services in such a way that subsystems successfully and continuously function together as early in the design and development lifecycle as possible. Our ultimate ambition is to significantly decrease end-to-end development cycle time. Our capabilities typically include technical leadership, system engineering/architecture, software development, development environments, continuous integration & delivery, virtualization, system integration & testing, change request diagnosis/evaluation & resolution, and deployment.
