The Business Manager independently manages financial and operational activities for each group or department, including pre and post grant management, and collaborates with administrators to address daily operations. Responsibilities include overseeing faculty portfolios, ensuring objectives are met, reviewing grant applications and expenditures, delegating work, and managing extramural funding. The role involves interaction with various centralized offices and departments, financial forecasting, and resolving budgetary issues. They manage functional activities under the Senior Business Director's direction and coordinate with clinical and research managers.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Develop and administer budgets and review expenses. Authorize expenditures within established limits. Track, monitor, and reconcile budget activities and analyze variances.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of pre and post-grant administration and related research activities. Work directly with department PIs to develop federal and non-federal grant proposals. Coordinate activities with the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR), the Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA), the Office of Scientific Affairs (OSA), and other collaborators.
  • Manage spending on grants and discretionary funds to ensure all expenditures are appropriate and allowable within grant and institutional policies.
  • Partner with Administrative Analysts to develop and coordinate work to meet deadlines. Complex issues may be referred to the Sr. Business Director.
  • Department-specific job duties may include, but are not limited to, event coordination and providing specialized support to faculty and Academic Medical Finance (AMF).
  • Collaborate with the Senior Business Director to participate in short and long-term planning.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of business management experience in an academic research or healthcare environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in health or business administration.
  • Personnel management experience.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $43.66 - $72.92 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
