The Bone Density Technician performs Bone Density scans of excellent quality. Your primary duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining documentation/database requirements to ensure that all technical data is entered timely and accurately.

  • Ensuring patients' comfort during and after the exam.

  • Analyzing scans and making preliminary interpretation of results.

  • Educating patients regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure understanding and cooperation.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs and analyzes DXA scans.
  • Produces images of optimal quality for interpretation with accuracy and without delay.
  • Notifies management and takes proper action to address equipment malfunctions.
  • Knowledgeable in acquiring, archiving, transmitting, and printing images via PACS.
  • When applicable, knowledgeable in after hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork.
  • Reports, immediately, any malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator.
  • Knowledgeable in billing via RIS.
  • Provides instruction/mentoring to new hires and Radiology students.
  • Continually strives to learn new technical information and skills through attendance of periodic in-service programs and participation in professional affiliation sessions.
  • Participate in off-site community educational events.
  • May be required to rotate through all imaging modalities, sites, and/or locations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology

Certifications:

  • Must be a Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists R.T.(R) (ARRT), in good standing.
  • Certification in Bone Densitometry (BD) required within one year of hire: R.T. (R) (BD) (ARRT).
  • Certification as a Bone Densitometry Technologist (CBDT) through the International Society of Clinical Densitometry required within one year of hire.
  • Current state licensure required prior to employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum one year experience as a general Radiologic Technologist with BMD training preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
