Job Description

The Department of Educational Psychology in the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education at the University of Oklahoma (OU) - Norman Campus is pleased to invite passionate, committed, and ­­­­dynamic individuals to be part of a robust program and academic community. We are seeking applications for a full-time instructor to teach courses within the special education program. This position is a 9-month, full time, teaching-focused, and renewable instructor line, with a course load of four in-person classes – or equivalent - each semester. Teaching responsibilities include content courses, as well as field placement and supervision that involves maintaining strong relationships with partner school district and personnel. Teaching will predominantly be in a face-to-face environment although online teaching may be assigned as needed. There also will be minimal service responsibilities, such as attending program meetings and assisting with accreditation processes.

We seek applicants who are committed to promoting positive learning experiences for undergraduate pre-service teachers, as well as supporting and mentoring undergraduate teacher candidates in both formal and informal spaces as they navigate teacher preparation and induction. Candidates will work with undergraduates that have diverse career aspirations within the field of special education, ranging from early childhood to high school placements.

The special education program brings together varied expertise across content and discipline areas to prepare and develop future teacher leaders who have a solid grounding in scientifically-aligned instruction and a strong sense of advocacy for the students they are serving.

Required Qualifications:

 ·         Minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited university, and in an educational field closely related to special education.

·         A minimum of three years of teaching experience in special education.

·         Experience working with preservice or inservice teachers.

 Desired Qualifications:

 ·         PhD preferred

·         Experience teaching in higher education, particularly in education and with undergraduates.

·         Experience teaching in online environments (i.e., asynchronous or synchronous)

·         Experience in working with various personnel within the university and community (e.g., faculty, staff, school district administrators, cooperating inservice teachers).

·         Familiarity with current teacher accountability and/or certification requirements.

·         Experience in or capacity for mentoring university students and/or supervising them in field placements.
