The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University's Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine is recruiting for a practicing physician at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Adult Anesthesia Division, Section(s) of Critical Care Anesthesia and Adult General. The faculty member is expected to be an active team member with emphasis in Critical Care Anesthesia and Adult General Anesthesia and Perioperative Care with the goal to achieve excellence in patient care, patient satisfaction and operating room efficiency. Education of residents is a fundamental part of the responsibilities. The selected faculty member will be assigned residents to train and provide at least 2 or more clinical lectures and one grand rounds presentation per year as well as train residents and nurses in perioperative care. Quality measures are of upmost importance, and our expectation will be to achieve 100% compliance with federal and institutional metrics. Also, supervision of mid-level providers and residents to ensure all quality measures are achieved will also be part of performance evaluation. This position is not considered to be on tenure track.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a clinical practice in the field of Critical Care Anesthesia.
  • Billing units at or in excess of the 65th percentile based on annually updated industry benchmarks for academic anesthesia departments (e.g. SAAA).
  • Funding level for salary and any future increases to the components of pay will be evaluated annually and dependent on performance as well as the availability of funds.
  • Contribute to the creation of educational materials for students and residents in the field of Critical Care Anesthesia.
  • Establish/coordinate clinical research in the area of Critical Care Anesthesia or in an area of scholastic interest that is relevant to our specialty.
  • 1-2 peer reviewed abstracts presented at state and/or national meetings per year or equivalent scholarly productivity.
  • Assist in the recruitment of faculty, physician extenders and mid-level providers as applicable.
  • Review and revise as necessary operational and workflow processes in Adult General Anesthesia and Critical Care Anesthesia to enhance quality of care, efficiency, and revenue stream.
  • Review and revise the educational environment in the Critical Care Anesthesia as necessary to meet and exceed required standards.
  • Participate in the on-call responsibilities in Adult General Anesthesia and Critical Care Anesthesia per department policy.


Required Qualifications

M.D., D.O. or equivalent from an accredited medical school. Completion of an accredited Anesthesia residency program, and board certified or eligible; Georgia physician medical and DEA License.

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

-Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;

-Evidence of ability as a teacher;

-Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;

-Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,

-Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round. Amount of time worked is based on work commitment.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is between 0.75 and 0.99 FTE. The FTE will be determined at the time of hire after discussions during the interview process with the successful candidate. Although this position is fully benefits eligible and can select from the robust University System of Georgia (USG) benefits package, this position is not considered full-time. Only positions at 1.0 FTE are considered full-time.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
