CRNA and AA Supervisor - Moffitt Anesthesiology

Incorporating clinical and supervisory / administrative responsibilities, the CRNA and AA Supervisor in collaboration with the Department's Chief/Chair, Associate Chief, Operating Room Director, and administrative staff will assist with coordinating APP schedules and services to ensure patient safety and efficient delivery of anesthesia services.

Position Highlights:

·        This position oversees CRNA and AA recruitment, performance, orientation, training, call coverage, time-off requests, annual reviews, and when needed staff allocation for physician(s). 

·        In addition this position will serve as a member of the Anesthesiology Department, providing anesthesia care to cancer patients under the direct supervision of physician anesthesiologists.  This position must have the ability to work within the scope of practice per protocol and state statutes.

Responsibilities:

 

-        Act as liaison between faculty anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists (CRNA), anesthesiology assistants (AA), and Department administrative staff and providing oversight on running daily assignments.

-       Clinical time providing anesthesia services.

-       Administrative time including supervision of CRNAs and AAs.

 

Supervisory Duties include:

·        Facilitate effective communication between all parties and promote cohesiveness within the Department.

·        Assist with scheduling staff's monthly, daily and call schedules.

·        Review vacation, meeting, and special requests and work to resolve conflicts.

·         Assist with case assignments throughout the day as needed.

·        Communicate pertinent information regarding OR daily schedule.

·        Maintain a positive and efficient working environment between the department of surgery and anesthesia.

·        Assist with retention of existing staff.

·        Attend quarterly APP council meetings.

·        Organize and chair the Anesthesiology Department's APP meetings.

·        Assist with evaluating, preparation and presentation of staff evaluations.

·        Assist with staff disciplinary actions and coaching when necessary.

·        Assist with recruitment, orientation and training of new anesthesia advanced practice practitioners.

·        Maintain requirements of medical staff membership and clinical privileges within the Cancer Center.

·        Serve as a mentor to newly hired and/or less seasoned APPs within the Cancer Center.

Clinical Duties include:

·        Perform and/or review the preoperative anesthetic evaluation in a thorough and complete manner.

·        Collaborate with the Anesthesiologist to formulate and implement an anesthetic plan based upon the preoperative evaluation.

·        Notify the supervising Anesthesiologist as directed or when the anesthetic or preoperative course on patient's status has significantly changed.

·        Recognize and treat a cardiac arrhythmia while the patient is under anesthetic are.

·        Calls for help for any life-threatening emergency and is aware and capable of initiating emergency resuscitation measures.

·        Order perioperative medication(s) and test(s) as needed.

·        Order or perform monitoring procedures indicated as per American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) guidelines.

·        Serve as a preceptor for CRNA/AA students and a resource for nursing and other personnel.

·        Participates on hospital committees.

·        Communicates and Consults with referring physicians.

·        Perform case review and participate in risk management for the department.

·        Maintain complete and accurate anesthetic records including timely completion of the information needed for billing purposes

·        Documents type of dose and time of antibiotic administration.

·        Follow Department and Hospital policy regarding infection control.

·        Attend 50% of Department Service Meetings or notify department when vacations or CME preclude attendance. 

Credentials and Qualifications:

·        Bachelor's degree in Anesthesia or related field at minimum; master's degree preferred.

·        Minimum five (5) years' experience as a CRNA or AA required.

·        Training, experience, and education consistent with that received through the successful completion of an American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, or Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistants approved training program.

·        Active BLS & active ACLS.

·        Previous experience in a supervisory role, such as Chief CRNA or AA preferred.
