As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you are responsible for safely performing nuclear medicine procedures to aid in accurately diagnosing disease or injury. Your primary duties will include:  

Performing computer processing of data including dynamic curve calculations.   

Performing nuclear medicine imaging including total body acquisition, tomographic, and gated topographic acquisition 

Consulting with Radiologist to determine the best procedure for individual patients. 


The ideal caregiver is someone who:  

Has PET/CT and SPECT/CT experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs nuclear medicine imaging including total body acquisition, tomographic, and gated topographic acquisition.
  • Performs computer processing of data including dynamic curve calculations, three dimensional reconstruction, planar and tomographic ejection fraction, cardiac bulls-eyes, and region ratios.
  • Schedules patients for procedures, correlating exams with other departments when necessary.
  • Utilizing NRC guidelines and State of Ohio regulations, assists qualified physician in administering radiation treatments and completes all documentation including bioassay of technologist and physician.
  • Performs dose calculation of radiopharmaceutical to ensure proper dose for each patient.
  • Consults with Radiologist to determine best procedure for individual patients.
  • Educates patients about procedure to be done.
  • Processes and records examination results in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Confers with physicians about results of examinations.
  • Assumes on-call responsibilities.
  • Provides education to various medical personnel about nuclear medicine procedures and radiation safety practices.
  • Follows hospital policy on universal precautions to ensure safety while handling biohazard materials.
  • Follows State and NRC guidelines to ensure safety while handling Radioactive materials.
  • Attends relevant meetings and seminars and reviews current literature to stay current with new equipment and procedures.
  • Assists in selection of new equipment.
  • Performs quality control procedures on nuclear medicine equipment to monitor performance of equipment.
  • Oversees maintenance of equipment such as performing regular calibrations to facilitate maintaining quality performance.
  • Works continually to anticipate and exceed the needs and expectations of customers.
  • Complies with all Radiology Information System entry requirements for accurate patient, film and tracking monitors.
  • Assists and supports the Radiologic student program, specifically the clinical aspect.
  • Provides supervision and feedback to students as they perform procedures. Reviews images with students on request and provides quarterly evaluations of students to clinical instructions for formal reviews.
  • Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure.
  • Other duties as assigned


Education:

  • Successful completion of Nuclear Medicine program approved by American Medical Association.


Certifications:

  • Current license in the State of Ohio. Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and/or Certification from Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board.


Complexity of Work:

  • Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.


Work Experience:

  • Working knowledge of computer systems and applications.
