The successful candidate:

  • Area of Focus: Surgical Specimen, Examination and Dissection

  • Examines, dissects and performs gross dictation and description of surgical specimens, photographs surgical specimens, assists with the procurement of tissue for the Tissue Bank.

  • Responsible for planning, organization and direction of non-medical operation pertaining to the appropriate dissection, tissue handling and laboratory utilization.

  • Assists the Medical Director with the daily operations of the pathology laboratory through appropriate utilization of laboratory resources, maintenance of workflow.

  • Reviews daily surgical and Interventional Radiology schedules to cover and perform frozen sections including selection of tissue, cutting, staining, and sending electronic images of gross specimens for selection of tissue for frozen examination and H&E histologic slide for pathologist diagnosis following CAP turnaround time.

  • Assists Tissue Bank Coordinator with the assistance of the Director to ensure proper procurement of tissue, provides instructions and guidance, maintains working relationship.

  • Maintains, renews and amends all IRB research protocols for studies involved with the Department of Pathology. Creates and applies for new research protocols as requested by physicians.

  • Maintains pathology quality improvement projects including: monthly updating of data and statistical analysis of all QA monitors for surgical, consult and cytology case loads, monitoring benchmarks, maintaining protocols related to QA monitors and communicating results to laboratory directors.

  • This is a Full-time position operating Monday - Friday 9:30am to 6:00pm. No holidays and no weekends required.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Master’s Degree from a NAACLS accredited Pathology (PA) program strongly preferred OR Bachelor’s Degree acceptable per certification requirement requirements of eligibility.

Minimum Experience

  • Hospital experience preferred, but not required.

  • Must have experience assessing appropriateness of surgical specimens and performing gross examination and gross dissection.

Required Licensure or Certifications:

  • Must possess an active ASCP certification or eligible to become certified.

  • Fellow status membership in the American Association of Pathologist Assistants (AAPA)

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $36.71 - $60.46 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
