The Science and Technology Partnerships and Outreach (S&TPO) organization is one of six directorates at Argonne, and S&TPO’s mission is to catalyze partnerships, capture new opportunities, and connect our research to the innovation ecosystem to ensure U.S competitiveness, economic prosperity, and national security.

Reporting directly to S&TPO’s Director of Commercialization, Innovation and Commercialization Manager (or ICM) is a highly visible and collaborative position within Argonne.  Due to a multidisciplinary nature of Argonne’s research, the ICM will focus on several technology areas including energy, transportation, and/or microelectronics, as well as support other technical areas and lab strategic initiatives, as needed.

As an Innovation and Commercialization Manager, you will:

  • Generate impact and value to Argonne and DOE from technology transfer
  • Manage cradle-to-grave technology and IP lifecycle
  • Facilitate establishment of strategic industrial research partnerships
  • Align technical scope, IP, and other key terms with technical, business, and legal stakeholders
  • Partake in IP generation decisions, identify commercial pathways, perform outreach
  • Negotiate licensing agreements and certain strategic partnership and collaborative agreements
  • Partner with Argonne’s Contract Administration and Legal teams on necessary approvals
  • Manage post-signature industry relationships, identify, and pursue non-compliances
  • Partake in innovation and IP training for Argonne’s research community.

Position Requirements

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Tech transfer or licensing in relevant technology areas in industry or academia.
  • Development and management of research and technology partnerships.
  • Familiarity with IP generation, assessment, identifying and pursuing commercial pathways.
  • Management of cross-functional relationships with R&D staff, business, and legal partners.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage conflicting priorities, and communicate effectively.
  • Occasional domestic travel may be required
  • Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values of Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
  • PT3: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree and 4+ years, a Master's degree and 2+ years of experience, or equivalent.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Negotiations of IP licensing, joint development, or related contracts.
  • Advanced degree and research experience in engineering or a scientific field.
