What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a R&D - Undergraduate Year Round Electrical Engineering Intern.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Work with Purchased Product Value Stream (PPVS) staff engineers as technical interface to product realization teams (PRT’s) and the commercial supply base for the design and delivery of chemicals and various components used in nuclear weapon design, development and production activities.
  • Participate in the product realization process (design through delivery); including early engagement in the development phase to define, validate, and clarify requirements for mechanical, electrical, or chemical parts/components destined for use in nuclear weapons.
  • Lead the identification, development and qualification of suppliers; assessing the technical capabilities of the suppliers to meet weapons requirements.
  • Lead efforts to enhance fundamental understanding of material requirements, defining and conducting experiment work to close knowledge gaps and improve design definition.
  • Anticipate and manage risk (i.e. sole source suppliers, sunset materials, technology development, etc.); identifying viable alternates and leading the technical evaluations and decision making process.
  • Manage product design definition (drawings, specifications, etc.) through the product life cycle (design-development-delivery).
  • Employ quality management systems and techniques; developing and managing comprehensive verification/qualification plans and defining acceptance criteria.
  • Manage multiple organizational interfaces; internally and externally.

Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Candidate must be pursuing a BS in Electrical Engineering or other related degree
  • Position is a year-round intern at SNL in Albuquerque, N.M. and duties of the position must be performed onsite
  • Candidates must possess well-developed interpersonal and communication skills; with an ability to work in a diverse team environment
  • Excellent oral communication and technical writing skills, with the ability to develop and present ideas and results in oral and written form
  • Experience in application of the scientific method; gathering, analyzing and presenting technical data for decision making/problem solving purposes
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced/schedule driven environment
  • A track record of leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities, including profession associations and/or technical conferences
  • Basic knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma and continuous improvement and their application

About Our Team:

The Purchased Product Value Stream Group (7567 & 7569) is responsible for product engineering and materials planning for nuclear weapons design, development, and production activities. We provide technical leadership in the various engineering disciplines (mechanical, chemical, materials science, and electrical) to identify, develop, deliver, assure, and sustain a commercial supply base for weapon components, materials, subassemblies, and custom tooling. We apply technical expertise to innovate and deliver solutions and anticipate and manage risk for nuclear weapons in the design and development phases and products in full-scale production. We anticipate and manage risk within the supply chain, researching alternate materials, defining and developing test and evaluation methodologies, developing design of experiments, identifying and developing supplier capabilities, and leading qualification activities. The PPVS Tooling & Planning Team (7567-1) is responsible for design, drafting and procurement of custom tooling, gages, fixtures and molds (TGFM) in support of Center 7500 production activities and NG Product Realization Teams. Additionally, they provide materials planning expertise using industry-standard materials-planning processes and tools to initiate the procurement phase and monitoring the supply chain to meet product-realization schedules.

Security Clearance:
