What Your Job Will Be Like: Advanced Microsystems Group, one of Sandia’s most advanced microsystems and nanodevices organizations, is seeking a Senior Manager. This group is part of the Microsystems Engineering, Science, and Applications (MESA) center, and conducts advanced research and delivers technologies for our national security missions. The successful candidate will share a vision for advancing both the group’s multiple divisions and its ever-evolving all-encompassing corporate QIS strategy. The group has four organizations: + 5225 - Photonics Microsystems Technologies: leading developer of microfabricated surface ion traps that are fabricated at MESA and used around the world to realize high fidelity quantum bits, qubits. + 5226 - Advanced Silicon Quantum Devices: develops and demonstrates high fidelity silicon qubits. Their research employs electron and nuclear spins in silicon quantum dot and donor devices.. + 5228 - Atomic/Optical Sensing and Electrochemical Engineering: develops atomic physics-based sensors; atom and ion trapping devices and systems; unique diffractive, sub-wavelength and micro-optical components and systems; critical electrochemical materials processes; and unparalleled micro-machined devices. + 5229 - Multiscale Fab Science & Tech Development: conducts cutting edge experimental solid-state device research at nanometer and atomic scales to develop technologies with novel capabilities and performance. Core capabilities include solid-state device nanofabrication, low temperature measurement, quantum coherent control and measurement, and quantum information science and technology. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Manage and oversee the technical competencies, personnel, and infrastructure that provide research, development, design, capabilities to support Sandia’s Microsystems and Nanodevices capability. + Serve as a program manager, supporting the Division 5000 Information Operations program director. Responsibilities include coordinating QIS capabilities across Sandia under the Beyond Moore’s Law sub-program. + Represent Sandia’s QIS program in coordinating with working groups across Sandia and the Nation. + Travel as required to develop and support projects and programs. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Salary Range: $166,700 - $283,600 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential. Qualifications We Require: + Master’s degree in physical science, engineering or a closely related STEM field plus twelve (12) years of relevant experience + Five (5) or more years of experience developing and managing research projects + Active DOE Q or DoD Top Secret clearance with + Ability to acquire and maintain and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph examination Qualifications We Desire: + Ph.D. in physical science, engineering, or a closely related STEM field + Experience with: + quantum technologies and programs + microelectronics development and fabrication + Demonstrated interpersonal skills in developing positive relationships among peers, staff, management, and customers + Strong oral and written communication skills + Familiarity with: + Strategic partnership programs (SPP) + Strategic intelligence partnership programs (SIPP) processes + DOE Office of Science + Active SCI clearance About Our Team: MESA stewards co-located research, development and production capabilities for advanced, trusted, and strategic rad-hard microsystems that meet evolving national security needs. The MESA leadership team is well-integrated and supports all Sandia missions. The Advance Microsystems Group supports these MESA missions as well as develops new technologies in atomic physics, nanofabrication, and quantum information sciences. This role provides a rare opportunity to learn microfabrication operations through participation in the MESA senior leadership team.
