What Your Job Will Be Like: Organization 2332 is seeking a summer undergraduate intern. You will be working with weapon system engineers and technologists to support our nation’s nuclear deterrent capabilities. During this internship, you will be working on developing software for automated test equipment with a team of experienced programmers. This position is geared toward an undergraduate student that is interested and willing to develop their software programming skills. Additionally, the opportunity exists to also build upon both electrical and functional testing skills as well. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Support LabVIEW, TestStand, or MATLAB software development efforts. Work with a team of 3-6 software programmers. + Learn about nuclear deterrence and weapon modernization work conducted as Sandia + Perform data analysis and post-test processing using MATLAB, or other available tools + Assist with the design and development of automated test equipment used on the latest modernization programs. + Learn about Center 2300 and how activity-level work, especially electrical work, is performed. Qualifications We Require: You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements: + Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited undergraduate program + Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major + Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 + Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer + U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S. Note: If you have not yet started your undergraduate program, please apply to a high school intern position. Qualifications We Desire: + First and foremost, an genuine interest in nuclear deterrence and the national security mission at Sandia. + Software programming experience. All experience is useful with any programming language. Experience programming with LabVIEW, TestStand, or MATLAB is most valuable. + Experience programming for and working with National Instruments (NI) hardware + Experience performing data analysis, preferably with MATLAB + Experience with electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, spectrum analyzers, etc.) + Ability to quickly learn new tools, approaches, and concepts + Experience working within a laboratory setting. Familiar with laboratory safety and security practices. + Self-directed, organized, able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment Posting Duration: This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. About Our Team: The ND System Electrical Test Department (2332) performs electrical and functional testing, at the system-level, to support Sandia’s major ND modernization programs. Additionally, our team is responsible for the design, development, and manufacture of system-level development testers used for system-level functional testing. Our department is responsible for all electrical and functional system-level testing on the W80-4, Mk21, and W87-1 programs. The department maintains and operates multiple laboratories across SNL and interacts extensively with the design, environmental testing, and qualification teams of major ND modernization programs. Security Clearance: This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance. Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Furthermore, employees in New Mexico need to pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to Kirtland Air Force Base. UPIV requirements are not applicable to individuals who require a DOE personnel security clearance for the performance of their SNL employment or to foreign nationals. The UPIV process will include the completion of a USAccess Enrollment, SF-85 (Questionnaire for Non-Sensitive Positions) and OF-306 (Declaration of for Federal Employment). An unfavorable UPIV determination will result in immediate retrieval of the SNL issued badge, removal of cyber (logical) access and/or removal from SNL subcontract. All MOWs may appeal the unfavorable UPIV determination to DOE/NNSA immediately. If the appeal is unsuccessful, the MOW may try to go through the UPIV process one year after the decision date.
