Job Description

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Research Director leads the development and implementation of a new Core (within our existing lab areas), maintains up-to-date services and incorporates state-of-the-art, innovative technologies and resources. This position provides administrative and fiscal oversight to manage and guide the functions, services, and technologies of the Discovery Core.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides operational oversight of all programmatic areas of the Core and those engaged in these activities.
Leads and/or performs in-vitro discovery of small molecules and evaluation of inhibitory concentrations of small molecules.
Evaluates small molecules for safety and efficacy in small animals.
Leads the development and evaluation of small animal models for multiple pathogens using imaging within BSL-3.
Leads the development of liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (LCMS/MS) services within BSL-3 containment.
Leads the development and evaluation of drug efficacy with and without pathogens in small animal models in the spirit of GLP and GLP.
Leads and provides support for writing reports, manuscripts, grants, and contracts.
Defines the scope of work and work with RBL Core members to cost study and submits to the RBL Business Unit.
Leads and participates in meetings on studies with RBL clients.
Creates new external Users of the Core through meetings and advertisements.
Provides Director with support for the review of ledgers and projections of budget for all the UC7 areas.
Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Ph.D. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Ten (10) years of related work. Must be able to pass DOJ clearance and CDC in processing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Extensive scientific expertise in Core areas as defined in the description and reflected in publications.
Skill in standard use of Microsoft Office programs and GraphPad.
Ability to communicate both verbally and written as demonstrated by prior publications of work experience.
Ability to work independently and contribute intellectually to program development.
