Job Description

Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and well-organized person to assist in mapping the peripheral nervous system and its innervation of bones and complex joint tissues across disease. This work is part of the Restoring Joint Health and Function to Reduce Pain (RE-JOIN) consortium, an NIH-funded initiative that brings scientists from various US-based institutions, including Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), together to better understand the origins of joint pain in diseases such as osteoarthritis.

Job Duties

  • Perform a broad range of cell, molecular biology, and biochemistry assays including DNA-, RNA-, and protein extraction from cells and tissues, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, western blots, real time PCR, etc.
  • Collect tissues for basic histology and tissue clearing in preparation for 3D light sheet imaging.
  • Assist (or perform) surgeries in mice to for viral neural tracing.
  • Perform mouse colony maintenance including, breeding and weaning, and PCR based genotyping.
  • Maintain an organize laboratory and workspace with full documentation inside of our laboratory information management system.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field.  Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in either neuroscience, genetics, or physiology.
  • Good organizational skills, excellent record keeping, attention to detail, and the ability to work well with others.
  • Experience handling and working with genetically engineered lab mice.
  • Experience with basic immunohistological laboratory techniques including tissue harvest and processing, thin section microscopy.
  • Experience with basic molecular laboratory techniques including PCR, recombinant plasmid DNA
