Job Description
Summary
The Senior Research Assistant will be expected to contribute to the broad research effort in the Texas Children’s Cancer Histiocytosis and Lymphoma Program Lab. The ideal candidate will conduct high-level advanced laboratory experiments on research projects with focus on immunology, immune disorders, lymphoproliferative disorders, and lymphomas. Research techniques will focus on molecular biology (e.g. tissue processing, nucleic acid extraction, tissue culture, PCR, flow cytometry, mouse colony maintenance) and immunology with experimental systems as well as primary human and mouse tissues. Candidates are expected to have degrees in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field and experience with molecular and cell biology techniques, including qPCR, western blots, Immunohistochemistry, RNAi, mutagenesis, and cell proliferation and migration assays. Additionally, this position will train and orient less experienced research staff.
Job Duties
- Prepares and conducts laboratory experiments:
- High-level advanced laboratory experiments (e.g. tissue processing, nucleic acid extraction, tissue culture, PCR, flow cytometry, mouse colony maintenance)
- Documents result of experiments; collects, compiles, and analyzes data; conducts literature searches:
- Maintains lab notebooks (physical and/or digital), contributes to database maintenance, prepares reports, supports development of presentations and publications.
- Orders laboratory supplies and equipment
- Trains junior technicians and interns
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field.
- Four years of relevant experience.
