This position is a leader within City of Hope’s Philanthropy Information Solutions Office and reports to the Director, Prospect Development. This position will work closely with colleagues on the Prospect Development and Philanthropy Information Solutions teams, with Gift Officers across the Office of Philanthropy and, as appropriate, other colleagues within the broader City of Hope community, as we seek philanthropic support to fulfill City of Hope’s bold mission.

Working within the Strategic Partnership Agreement framework, the Manager acts as a Strategic Partner to one-to-two associate vice president or vice president-level gift officers and collaborates to identify and drive alignment on strategic prospect development-related priorities for their respective departments. The Manager serves as a member of the PD leadership team that develops the department’s strategic direction and initiatives; serves as a sponsor of one or more of the department’s key initiatives: internal analytics, external analytics, pipeline development, event bios, or data audits; manages a team of one or more assistant and/or associate Managers; and builds collaborative relationships with gift officers. The Manager develops and implements sophisticated, state-of-the-art best practices and manages their work, and that of their direct reports, to ensure that all products are consistently produced, of the highest quality, and meet the philanthropy staff’s needs for strategic planning.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Manage, mentor and coach direct and indirect reports, if any, and ensure that the team provides a high level of service to all stakeholders and works collaboratively to meet City of Hope goals.
  • Meet with leaders to identify strategic initiatives, outline the team’s role and define a transparent partnership agreement to support on-going collaboration.
  • Provide high level analytics and insights to fundraising team leaders/VPs gathered from direct reports.
  • Monito prospect pool and refer/assign viable prospects to gift officers for discovery and assessment.
  • Analyze and interpret gift officer data, metrics and KPIs, gather qualitative feedback from other PD staff, and meet regularly with managers to provide insights on the performance of their direct reports. Monitor use of prospect management systems to ensure accuracy, consistency and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • On an on-going daily, weekly, and monthly basis, proactively identify prospects for gift officer portfolios.
  • Keep current with the latest trends and developments in prospect development through reading, webinars, conferences, or other educational offerings.
  • Participate in, or conduct, onboarding training for new hires.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Seven or more years’ experience in prospect research, management, tracking, data analysis, or related development field experience or a combination of institutional development experience is highly desirable, preferably within an academic, medical or major research institution.
  • Experience providing unparalleled customer service.
  • At least two years’ experience managing direct reports.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $44.90 - $74.99 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
