What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking an experienced Cybersecurity professional (R&D S&E Cybersecurity Specialist DD) with a passion to contribute to a more secure and resilient electric grid through energy security research and development. The successful candidate will research, design, and test new cybersecurity approaches for operational and information technology related to electrical or electromagnetic equipment, systems, and networks integrating with and supporting the electric grid. This position is expected to include research into the design of electrical equipment, controls, components, systems, and products. Further, analysis will include knowledge and use of power systems, machine learning, grid modeling and laboratory assessments for distributed energy-resource based systems. To best enable the collaboration and partnership that makes many of our projects successful, we prefer for the selected hire to work onsite at the Sandia Albuquerque location. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Develop and execute research experiments focused on cybersecurity as it relates to renewable energy and electric vehicle grid integration + Create and present material that describe research methods and results to a variety of audiences + Lead dynamic, interdisciplinary teams to coordinate research tasks + Develop research ideas and propose these to funding agencies + Lead research efforts to successfully meet research objectives + Serve as a subject matter expert internally to the lab and externally in identifying challenges and approaches to meeting these to secure the nations electric grid Salary Range: $138,600 - $235,500 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential. Qualifications We Require: + Master's in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or other relevant field plus eight years of directly related experience; or PhD in a relevant field plus four years of directly related experience + Coding/programming experience using Python, MATLAB, or similar platform + Grid modeling using OpenDSS, Matlab Simulink or similar tool + Strong publication record, including journal publications Qualifications We Desire: + Experience developing and implementing Machine Learning for both regression and classification analysis. + Ability to work with large and small data sets stored in flat file format or in a database + Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written About Our Team: The Electric Grid Security and Communications Department develops technologies to ensure that our evolving electric infrastructure is resilient to cyber, physical, natural, and related threats to secure operations. Our electric grid is evolving rapidly, bringing changes in the threats and vulnerabilities of the system that we must address. Efforts span a range of research, including exploration of fundamental concepts, applied analytical tools, field-based systems integrations, and codifying best practices as precursors to new codes and standards. In addressing national needs related to grid security, the department team leverages Sandia's core competencies that exist in several other departments. Position Information: This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years. Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
