The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University, we provide dental education to the next generation of professionals by offering hands-on education through innovative research, patient care, and service. Join other dental providers to improve the oral health of Georgia and beyond. The DCG was founded to provide the people of Georgia with quality dental care by educating students in dentistry. As a patient, you have the option to receive treatment in one of our three different practice models consisting of student clinics, resident care, or in the faculty practice. All dental treatments can be completed by the specialists in our facility. We also serve patients in more than 20 clinics across Georgia.
Job Summary
The duties include but are not limited to: Provide clinical administrative and supervisory support for the respective team. Direct the daily activities for the staff assigned to the respective team. Responsible for the functional supervision of all dental assistants assigned to the respective team and establish work assignments and standards for clinic assistants. Maintains and accounts for all assigned employees on and off schedule using the TimeNet system. Responsible for submitting required weekly, bi-weekly and monthly reports. Assist in the interviewing of prospective personnel and provide performance evaluations for each assistant assigned to their respective team.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Supervises clinical dental assisting employees assigned to the respective team. This includes but is not limited to recruitment, hiring, orientation and training of clinical staff. Evaluates employee performance and provides guidance and training as needed to ensure employee performance meets established standards. Counsels or disciplines employees as needed. Maintains and accounts for all assigned employees on and off schedules. Assist in other department areas as needed to ensure maximum dental care.
Coordinate daily assignments of dental assistants to ensure efficient clinical operations and completion of required duties. Ensures all dental assistants are cross trained and can function effectively in the required areas of dentistry in all clinics of the respective team. Provide chairside assistance to providers with exams and procedures including but not limited to restorative, crown and bridge and surgical procedures. Perform x-rays and provide post-care and home-care instructions to patients after treatment is rendered.
Facilitate communications among the dental assistants regarding procedures, changes, clarifications and distribution of pertinent materials. This includes the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials. Ensure equipment, instruments and operatories are clean and sterilized according to infection control and OSHA compliance guidelines. Ensure confidentiality of patient information and compliance with DCG policies and procedures including HIPPA.
Ensure that dental clinics are set up and stocked with disposable materials and medicaments for daily operation. Ensure that clinics are clean and orderly at all times and adequately manage supply levels by ordering as needed ensuring a constant level of clinical supplies is on hand. Ensure no area is overstocked. Ensure that clinic equipment is maintained appropriately and make minor repairs as needed and when necessary the timely submission of required documentation for repairs. Track repair completion and equipment turn-in.
Required to work ADEX (CRDTS) and mock boards, as well as other special board certification exercises, throughout the year as needed. This could involve weekend work. Assist in the coordinating efforts for mock board exercises and nominate and assist in monitoring staff that participate in the exercise. Assist with fabricating select items for various pre-clinical courses.
Check equipment to ensure it is working properly. Ensure all broken items are sent to ICR and recorded as such in the computer system. Order thru AxiUm and Central Supply for all non stock items. Monitor inventory levels of instruments and supplies stored in the clinic and ensure compliance with DCG policies.
Report all issues personnel or otherwise using the established chain of command. Prepare, distribute and collect supplemental instruments used for boards. Assist all participants on boards with patient care supplies and equipment needs. Prepare and submit all weekly, monthly and yearly reports on employee training and reviews. Prepare and submit reports on equipment/cleaning inspections, repairs and inventory inspections
Conduct scheduled cleaning of walls, floors, counters and equipment associated with clinical operatories.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized state or federal accredited organization with three years' related experience OR Certified Dental Assistant and/or Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with two years of experience in dentistry OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with one year of experience in dentistry.

Previous experience supervising dental assistant staff or graduation from a dental assisting program with two years' experience in dental assisting in a general dentistry practice, to include previous experience mixing dental materials, taking x-rays, chair side dental assisting skills/knowledge in multiple dental disciplines. Certified dental assistant, CPR certified; training with radiology safety.
A minimum of two years' experience as a dental assistant to include previous experience mixing dental materials, taking x-rays, chair side assisting skills/knowledge in multiple dental disciplines with experience preferably in (Prosthodontic, Esthetic, Endodontic, Pediatric, Orthodontic or Periodontics assisting). Depends on which clinic has the opening. Proficient in understanding and speaking Spanish in a clinical setting.

Knowledge of 4-handed dentistry and chair side dental assisting skills
Taking radio graphs
Knowledge of dental instruments, infection control protocols, equipment, materials and methods
Excellent interpersonal, customer service, written and verbal communication skills

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (possible weekend work)
Pay Grade: 10
Salary: Minimum $15.00/hour
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
