What Your Job Will Be Like:
Are you a thrill seeker for innovative new ideas to ensure a safe and secure space domain? Do you have experience developing business relationships with DoD and IC partners, vetting technical proposals, and driving towards securing new resources for R&D projects? If you do or have an extensive technical background and a desire to shift your career in this direction, Sandia National Laboratories welcomes you to apply for our Manager of Space Control Strategy position!
The Space Control Strategy team is a small group of technical strategists, innovative researchers, and business development professionals focused on expanding Sandia’s research portfolio in the following areas: next generation flight demonstration systems, space cybersecurity missions, and space-based systems resiliency.
Our ideal candidate is a “big picture thinker” who is excited about the prospect of hitting the proverbial pavement, leveraging their existing networks, and bringing projects from concept to funding and initial concept. Individuals with a shrewd mind for seeing opportunities and crafting plans and pitches will thrive and grow in this role, a position that regularly leads to future more senior opportunities at national laboratories for high performers.
Even if you have not done this work at the level of complexity we outlined above, but you have the technical mind and drive to learn more, we encourage your application. The hiring manager for this position is highly motivated to build our capacity in this area and has personally committed significant resources toward mentoring the ideal candidate.
Working with our key sponsors and business partners outside and inside of Sandia National Laboratories is core to the function of this role, so expect travel at least once a month to support these objectives.
Qualifications We Require:
+ Bachelor’s degree in a relevant STEM discipline.
+ Eight years of experience in space systems development where at least four were focused on technical delivery in one of the following domains:
+ Next generation flight systems
+ Space cybersecurity missions
+ Space-based systems resiliency
+ At least two years of experience in program development, including identifying, developing, and realizing new project opportunities.
+ Experience with DOD and IC Space Missions.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q and SCI clearance, or equivalent, which may require a polygraph test.
Qualifications We Desire:
+ Advanced degree in a related STEM discipline (M.S. or Ph.D.) where an independent research project was a requirement for graduation.
+ Experience with remote sensing and/or space-based systems
+ Demonstrated interest and success in recruiting, hiring and developing/mentoring new personnel
+ Demonstrated business and political competence while interacting with customers
+ Experience executing and leading SCI and/or Special Access Program (SAP) level projects
+ Experience with developing and implementing strategic goals and objectives
+ Demonstrated ability to deliver results and effectively lead/guide hard-working, experienced technical staff
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Experience developing and presenting proposals to internal and external partners
+ Proven ability to build trusting relationships
+ Active DOE Q and SCI clearance, or equivalent

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.
