The Department of Medicine, Vascular Medicine Institute is seeking a postdoctoral associate.  The lab of Mohamed Trebak studies the molecular mechanisms of cellular Ca2+ signaling at the interface of endoplasmic reticulum (ER), plasma membrane (PM), and mitochondria. The lab’s goal is to enhance our understanding of the molecular composition and physiological functions of cellular signaling microdomains that are of major significance to human disease, so we might be able to target these mechanisms for the purpose of therapy. The lab focuses on STIM1, STIM2, and Orai proteins, which form the store-operated Ca2+ entry channels.

 Main duties

The candidate will work on an emerging project defining the unique proteins that interact with either STIM1 or STIM2 from the luminal side of the ER. Identifying signaling pathways that are unique to either STIM1 or STIM2 would be beneficial for the specific targeting of either STIM1 or STIM2 is vascular remodeling and colorectal cancer.

 Minimum requirements

Ph.D. in any field of biology or physiology. Experience in cellular biology, molecular biology biochemistry, and patch clamp electrophysiology
