Job Summary

Performs advanced technical work in support of research initiatives in an assigned laboratory. Participates in research data collection and documentation within FDA guidelines and research institute protocols; develops and evaluates new research techniques and procedures. Performs a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytological, microscopic, histological, or dissection procedures.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities to include but not limited to:

Participate In project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with human assurance and the FDA. Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants and other employees engaged in research activities and / or related laboratory work. Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate microscopes, computer linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers, and other complex scientific equipment; instructs others in operation of equipment. Analyze results of research experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques, may develop special computer program to facilitate analysis. Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature, summarize, and evaluate findings; develops derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; reviews articles prepared by others. Participate in inventory, maintenance, and experimental planning of animal models for research. Train and oversee others on animal care, handling and common experimental techniques and tissue processing. Advise principal investigators, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures, and other technological aspects of research. Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience. OR Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to maintain confidentiality; Knowledge of databases, operating systems, and spreadsheets; Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Grade: R14

Salary: $36,107-$50,576 annually.

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
