Job Description
Required Educational Background: Applicant must have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, or a closely-related field. Industry and/or postdoc experience is desirable.
Responsibilities: supervising graduate and undergraduate students with mechanical testing and electron microscopy-based materials characterization activities, conducting research on the mechanical behavior of materials for sponsored programs and with industry partners, writing reports, proposals, and archival publications, and providing day-to-day oversight of the mechanical testing facilities within the MEMS Department.
Required Skillset: Prior experience with mechanical testing methods (tensile, compression, cyclic, fatigue crack growth, fracture toughness, etc.), sensing methods (dcPD, extensometers/clip gages, DIC, etc.), materials characterization (SEM, EBSD, EDS; TEM and FIB are desirable), and sample preparation are all desirable.
