Massage Therapist - Supportive Care Medicine

The Massage Therapist provides inpatient and outpatient massage therapy services to Moffitt patients, family members, caregivers, staff and faculty.  This position applies knowledge of anatomy and physiology to massage therapy services provided to the cancer population.

Position Highlights:

·Responds to any inquiries about the kinds of massage offered, the benefits of this service or other related inquiries.

·Communicates with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers regarding massage therapy for patient and documents accordingly in the EMR according to guidelines for ancillary clinical staff.

·Presents in-service and workshops as requested to raise awareness about the benefits of massage therapy for cancer patients and their caregivers.

·Assists with creation of educational materials, marketing brochures, calendars and other program materials.

In Addition: 

·Annually demonstrates competencies for evaluation by manager and input from other therapists.  Competency determination includes documentation that patient information and clinical status is reviewed (as relevant to that patient population) and that orders are verified prior to services.

·Annually, competency also evaluated by discussion with Director of Integrative Medicine or designated faculty member on clinical issues relevant to screening prior to massage therapy services.

Required / Preferred Credentials and Qualifications:

·High school diploma or equivalent at minimum.

·Credentialed and maintain a current Florida license in massage therapy, active BLS, and Oncology Massage continuing education certification.

·Minimum one (1) year experience in the delivery of massage therapy; experience in a health care setting preferred.

·Strong demonstrated verbal and written communication skills required.

·Must be willing to work minimally 1 day/week and substitute as needed.

·Requires firm knowledge of various massage therapy techniques, AND the understanding of the specific needs and limitations of cancer patients regarding massage.

·Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word Access, and Power Point) required; Project Manager preferred; previous experience in review of patient medical records or demonstrated familiarity with medical terminology preferred.

·Ability to provide effective presentations to small audiences.
