Job Summary
Provide advanced mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, microscopy, and instrumental support for the Laboratory for Imaging Mass Spectrometry, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Facilities, and Chemistry Core facilities for the collection of data, interpretation of data, and service and maintenance of equipment. This position will also train faculty, staff, and students on the
proper use and interpretation of laboratory instrumentation. The position will also require knowledge of Instrument Standard Operating Procedures and Method Development to aid the Director of the Laboratory of Imaging Mass Spectrometry in new directions for instrumental analysis.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but not limited to:
Perform routine analysis of instrumentation (mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, microscopy) in the Laboratory for Imaging Mass Spectrometry, and Dr. Guido Verbecks research group.
Manage data interpretation and storage for all collected spectra.
Train faculty, staff, and students on instrument use and data interpretation.
Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and method development for the Verbeck Research Group and Laboratory for Imaging Mass Spectrometry instruments.
Aid the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry & Chemistry Core in maintenance, training, calibration, analysis, and method development on departmental instrumentation.
Perform administrative duties as it pertains to the Dr. Verbeck Research Group and Laboratory for Imaging Mass Spectrometry.
Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience.
Research experience in Instrument Laboratory, specifically Mass Spectrometry Lab.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, multi-tasking, organizational and verbal/written communication skills; Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and other computer software/databases; and Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines despite often interruptions, maintain confidentiality, keep accurate records, and make independent decisions.
Mass spectrometry instrument knowledge, both general and specific; Spectroscopy instrument knowledge (fluorescence, UV-VIS, Raman, NIR, OES), both general and specific; data analysis statistical software; method development and SOP development knowledge.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Pay Grade: R14
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
