Job Description
Job Summary/Essential Job Functions: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Senior Research Assistant will perform broad experimental procedures under the guidance of the Principal Investigator.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops or optimizes assays for nucleic acid extractions, protein extractions, and other basic molecular biology.
Supports all aspects of in vitro animal studies including husbandry, blood collection from living mice, tissue collections, perfusions, injections in live mice, and multiple different behavioral phenotyping assays.
Conducts, develops, and optimizes in vitro assays under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
Assists in the publication and presentation of data papers at internal and external meetings.
Supervises and trains rotating students and junior fellows on the proper use of instruments and laboratory techniques.
Maintains lab equipment for experiments.
Prepares weekly reports for lab meetings.
Maintains rodent colony record keeping and inventory.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Psychology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of research laboratory experience; OR Master’s Degree will be accepted in lieu of experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of lab management and lab safety.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Attention to detail.
Ability to meticulously record data.
Ability to work as part of a team, follow directions, plan, and complete experiments in a timely manner.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may be occasionally required to work evenings and weekends. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
