Position Summary

The Value Analysis Senior Manager will serve as the programmatic and operational leader for the value analysis processes across City of Hope system. This includes establishing and executing a formal process for the review of supply, service and equipment requests; providing expertise to facilitate supply expense management; actively working with clinical areas to mediate issues with manufacturers; and continuous monitoring of outcomes/compliance to ensure they achieve desired results.

In this role, the Value Analysis Senior Manager will actively engage physicians, clinicians and other stakeholders in value-based variation reduction efforts for clinical products, devices, supplies and services. They will work strategically with Departmental leadership, Strategic Sourcing, Materials Management and others to identify, analyze, determine, and implement best practices to support a balance between efficacy and expense.

They will maintain a systematic methodology to support evidence and consensus-based decision making through developing and leading an effective Value Analysis Committee (VAC) infrastructure. This will be a new position that will require a comprehensive education and communication plan, strong project management skills and the ability to effectively facilitate change.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Develops objectives for the System-wide value analysis program including policies and procedures around the selection of devices, supplies, services and technologies. Responsible for managing a clinically focused and user driven financially responsible product evaluation and selection process.
  • Collaborates with Contracting and Strategic Sourcing departments to ensure necessary contracts, negotiated terms, and procurement of VAC approved products and/or services are consistent with the VAC’s requirements.
  • Designs/enhances existing work processes, workflows, etc. for the Value Analysis area and implements appropriate changes to improve its effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency across the System
  • Utilizes the Group Purchasing Organization’s (GPO’s) internal tools to identify System-wide savings opportunities. Educates internal customers and partners with the GPO to build relationships that relate to value analysis and value realization activities
  • Develops/enhances the process for “trialing” of products and facilitates the trials to ensure the evaluations are unbiased and conducted in a professional manner. This includes establishment and maintenance of tools and templates for new product requests and trials, conflict of interest disclosures, peer review and consensus development, and decision-making matrices.
  • Develops KPIs and monitors the ongoing evaluations of products, technologies and services that have been approved through the value analysis committee (VAC) to ensure the objectives are achieved.
  • Facilitates product and/or service implementations including introduction, selection, utilization, conversion, education, etc. Determines appropriate committee review of products/services such as Surgical Services, Clinical Committee, etc. Facilitates processes in collaboration with appropriate departmental leads from Clinical and Materials Management.
  • Collaborates with the Procurement and Materials Management department and the appropriate clinical areas on product substitution decisions.
  • Creates education and communication plans for products and service end-users.
  • Oversees the establishment and monitoring of key financial indicators to ensure expected results are achieved and maintained. Reviews results that vary from expected clinical and financial outcomes, makes recommendations and implements alternative solutions as appropriate.
  • Is responsible for scheduling of VAC meetings (annual calendar), setting agenda and creating content, facilitating discussion, quantifying goals and tracking progress. Leads and coordinates an effective Value Analysis Committee(s), including assuring diverse member participation and engagement from relevant clinical, finance and supply chain areas
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices

Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing, health administration or bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in value analysis, process/quality improvement or related experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Leading and facilitating Value Analysis committees and working cross-functionally with Sourcing and Procurement, vendors and clinical teams.
  • Managing multiple projects to ensure completion and tracking compliance and KPI’s.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to lead change management efforts.
  • HYBRID schedule and25% travel to other Southern California locations

Preferred education experience and skills:

  • Member of AHVAP
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a healthcare setting
  • Leadership experience in multiple healthcare functional environments
