The Department of Diabetes Immunology within theArthur Riggs Diabetes & Metabolism Research Institute (AR-DMRI)at City of Hope has an opening at any professorial rank (Assistant/Associate or full professor). Our research depth in diabetes and cancer makes this institution unique, providing opportunities for scientific and clinical distinction and collaboration across disciplines, for example cross-talk between diabetes immunologists, cancer immunologists, and beta cell biologists.

City of Hope is also home to theWanek Family Project for Type 1 Diabetes, a philanthropic partnership designed to advance novel therapies for type 1 diabetes. The Wanek Family Project and a new Department of Diabetes Immunology are directed byAlberto Pugliese, who joined City of Hope in October 2022. The Department is being expanded with strong focus on human type 1 diabetes and translation.

As a successful candidate, you will:

· Be a scientist with interest in understanding islet autoimmunity and more broadly the disease pathogenesis at the preclinical and/or clinical levels and with the desire to translate promising insights into biomarkers, treatments and potential cures for type 1 diabetes.

· A Ph.D. and/or MS and possess a record of scholarly accomplishments (high-impact publications, extramural funding, national and international awards) commensurate to the faculty rank. Applicants will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an open, collaborative mindset.

  • The required extent of qualifications will vary according to career stage and will help determine the rank of appointment (assistant, associate, or full professor):
    • Scholarly accomplishments
    • Extramural funding experience
    • Impactful mentoring and teaching skills
    • Interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaboration
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills (relationship-building, communications, listening, negotiation diplomacy)
    • Integrity, honesty and inclusive behavior
