Job Description

Summary

The Susan Rosenberg lab in the Molecular and Human Genetics department seeks to hire a Research Technician who would bring innovative thinking to solve problems. The individual will work on a cutting-edge project aimed at developing new techniques to detect cancer and disease. The technician will have experience in cell culture and mouse handling techniques as well as excellent written, oral communication and organization skills. The Research Technician is expected to work independently under the PI's direct supervision and will be working with outside collaborators.

Job Duties

  • Conducts routine laboratory molecular biology experiments that includes DNA extraction and staining, plasmid prep and cloning, harvests and maintains cell cultures.
  • Conducts basic mouse work.
  • Collects blood from mice by retro-orbital, cardiac puncture. 
  • Performs immunophenotyping and runs samples on flow cytometry and analyzes data with FlowJo. 
  • Conducts literature searches and stays informed of the latest studies concerning DNA damage, blood biomarkers and cancer genomics.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Operates the laboratory equipment.
  • Presents results and progresses to PI and lab members weekly or at conferences.
  • Assists in the preparation of progress reports for grants.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in cell culture and mouse handling techniques.
  • Has excellent written, oral communication and organization skills.
