Summary

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is currently looking for a part-time Lead Communications Coordinator to join its team. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing internal and external marketing communication strategies for the department. The ideal candidate will work closely with department leaders to ensure that communication plans are aligned with the department and organizations goals and objectives. 

 

This is a part time position within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and will mostly work remotely with occasional office touch-down space 1-2 times biweekly. The ideal candidate would have excellent communication skills (verbal and non-verbal), and would exhibit proficient listening skills while working/interviewing directly with the Department Charmain, Department leadership, Department Administrator, and other faculty. This position is expected to evaluate internal and external communication strategies for the department relying on industry knowledge and experience. Communication strategies will be across mission areas including Education, Research, and Clinical. Position will connect with various internal departments including Office of Communications and Outreach, Institutional Advancement (philanthropy), Alumni Relations etc. External communications may be occasional Houston News stations, and other external news outlets relating to recognizing faculty members or programs. 

Job Duties

 

  • Develop internal and external marketing communication strategies such as news letters, informational brochures, publications, and other mediums for public relations for the department. 
  • Meet with department leaders to develop communication plans that align with the department and organization's overall goals and objectives. These plans may include identifying key messaging, communication channels, and timelines for each initiative. 
  • Develop, write and edit department quarterly newsletter content, press releases, web content, and news stories. Sends information from the department to the Office of Communications and Community Outreach for various College internal communications.
  • Manages department communication schedules to ensure messaging is delivered in a timely and efficient manner. This will involve coordinating with departments leaders and department administration to ensure that messaging is aligned across all channels. 
  • Serve as primary liaison between department and the Office of Communications and Community Outreach. Maintains communication with the Office of Communications and Community Outreach on advertising opportunities and compliance.
  • Manages communication materials for departmental projects. Distributes quarterly newsletter to faculty, administration and alumni (internal and external).
  • Manages all Online communications including department website and social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Six years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications.
  • Three to four years of writing, editing, communications experience.

 

 

Other

The ideal candidate for this position would have proficient project management skills managing multiple department projects independently across mission areas. The ideal candidate would have a positive professional attitude when developing marketing strategies when meeting with department leadership.
