Position Summary

Responsible for the accurate care coordination of inpatient and outpatient interventional radiological procedures and related outpatient pre- and post-procedural appointments.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Directly responsible for coordinating interventional radiological cases and outpatient procedures for the department radiology and all of the associated divisions
• Coordinates interventional radiological procedures with IR staff and patient to ensure patients are properly scheduled for all procedures and clinic appointments
• Initiates and reviews the interventional procedure Scheduling Data Sheet. Ensures all documentation is complete and the correct pre-op tests are ordered in a timely manner
• Coordinates with New Patient Services to ensure biopsy slides, reports and any other pertinent information is available prior to the patient’s procedure date.
• Schedules pre-op appointments. Ensures all documentation is complete and the correct information is communicated and distributed to the patients in a timely manner
• Coordinates pre-op authorizations with the Utilization Review Department and ensures that all clearances requested by provider are received prior to the procedure date.
• Processes pre-op consultations
• Processes labs, order, EKGs, x-rays or any ancillary services as requested by providers.
• Ensures all clearances requested by provider are received prior to the procedure date.
• Directs patient calls regarding pre-op instructions and post op questions.
• Coordinates date of interventional procedures based on doctors OR block time schedules and clinic schedules.
• Coordinates pre-op admission with the Admitting Department.
• Acts as a resource to coordinate schedule of midlevel practitioners and physicians regarding all interventional cases.
• Contacts patients regarding date and time of clinic or procedure related appointments and provides updates to any changes in the schedules.
• Provides updates to physician schedules when clinics or procedures are cancelled. If possible – works with other patients to fill open appointment block times
• Collaborates with clinic scheduling staff if procedure needs to be booked during routine clinic hours so that clinic times and schedules can be adjusted
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

• Minimum Education:High school degree or equivalent.Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.
• Minimum Experience:Two years’ work experience in a medical environment.

Required Courses/Training:

• Medical terminology
• Basic knowledge of related computer system
• Demonstrates general data entry abilities
• Function with minimal supervision
• Maintain high level of productivity
• Medical terminology required
• Basic knowledge of insurance types/financial classifications preferred

Required Certification/Licensure:

• BLS – Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program produced by the American Heart Association

Preferred education experience and skills:

• Two years medical office experiencepreferred
• LVN or similar patient care experience preferred.

Additional Information:

• This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement.
• Weekend coverage will be part of this schedule
