ROLE SUMMARY

ESG is a growing area of interest across industries, geographies and for investors. According to Fidelity over $500B flowed into ESG-related funds in 2021 and most investors agree that ESG investing will continue to grow well past 2022. Interest is growing across stakeholders for companies to advance responsible business growth strategies across environmental, social and governance issues.

Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Officer, the head of ESG will drive Pfizer’s ESG strategy to ensure it is fully integrated into Pfizer’s business strategy. They will be responsible for a broad range of activities, including, but not limited to, ensuring alignment of our ESG strategy with our corporate strategy, embedding our ESG vision into our functional areas and capabilities, engaging with both internal and external stakeholders (e.g., investors, ratings agencies) to advance our ESG performance and impact, and to convey our narrative by leading the publication of our annual ESG reporting process working in partnership with our finance and corporate audit functions.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy and Oversight:

  • Oversight of ESG governance structure within the company including management of the Sustainability Steering Committee and Executive Leadership ESG Committee, in partnership with Corporate Compliance and through Board committees. Specific duties include annual planning for engagement across committees including charter development, committee management, performance tracking and reporting.
  • Lead policy, engagement, and communication efforts (external and internal) associated with ESG.
  • Proactive external engagement, environment shaping and principled advocacy to understand evolving expectations and enable Pfizer’s ESG strategic priorities consistent with its purpose, values and strategic plan.
  • With Sustainability Steering Committee and subject matter experts, drive ESG priorities , accountabilities of key stakeholders, and connectivity of ESG office cross-functionally to ensure strategic alignment.
  • With the Sustainability Steering Committee identify key external ratings, rankings and indices that are most important for our stakeholders and investors. Engage those agencies and serve as key account manager with investor relations and corporate governance.
  • Serve as internal consultant to other functional areas on the ratings and ranking process.

Stakeholder Engagement and Environmental Shaping:

  • Respond to internal and external requests for information from ESG investors and other stakeholders, in partnership with internal subject matter experts.
  • Track external ESG trends and focus areas; work to influence external ESG reporting standards and benchmark trends to inform Pfizer’s overall strategy.
  • Serve as key ESG spokesperson for the company and represent company in key ESG-related forums.

Annual ESG Report:

  • Develop strategy for Annual ESG Report; oversee end to end process for execution of ESG reporting and stakeholder communication across functions.
  • Oversee content inclusion in Annual Review, Proxy, and SEC Filings as appropriate.
  • Project management across KPI owners
  • Single point of contact and responsibility for agency supporting the report
  • Ensure appropriate oversight and follow-up related to report including audits; certification process; and digital enablement activities to support efficient reporting.

Drive internal engagement for ESG work

  • Partner with key internal groups to drive ESG principles throughout organization (e.g. Sustainability Bonds, executive compensation metric development, DE&I strategy).
  • Partner with tax and controller’s office to prepare for EU country by country reporting requirements.
  • Work to understand new regulatory platforms and support company readiness for implementation.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors’ degree (required) and Masters degree (preferred) in relevant field including Sustainability Management, Environmental Studies, Sustainable Finance, Risk Management, Business Administration, etc.
  • Subject matter expertise in ESG preferred, including overall experience with reporting frameworks, climate/climate risk, sustainability, access to medicine frameworks (e.g. SBTi, TCFD, CDP, Net-Zero, etc.)
  • Demonstrated success in applying ESG, sustainability, and/or climate risk management in alignment with company strategy and business needs and cross-functional program implementation
  • Minimum of 15 years of finance, ESG, legal,  investor relations or ratings experience. Advanced degree in finance, policy or sustainability preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills and strong written and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work across complex matrixed organization and ability to influence without authority.
  • Experience working directly with Board of Directors and Executive Leadership teams.
  • Experience developing, setting, prioritizing and progressing strategic priorities in a complex and evolving environment.
  • Strategic and entrepreneurial mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to navigate a complex and matrixed organization
  • Expertise and leadership in designing and implementing systems for monitoring and managing climate, sustainability and risk metrics.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills to operate in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and effectively set and meet deadlines
  • Outstanding interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative approach and ability to work cross-functionally and globally with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Operate well under pressure with a high degree of composure and professionalism
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $232,300.00 to $387,200.00. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 30.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Salary range does not apply to the Tampa, FL location.
