Job Description

Two field technicians are needed to assist with Cerulean Warbler research in Yellowwood and Morgan-Monroe state forests near Bloomington, Indiana from approximately May 1, 2023 through mid- to late July 2023.

Field technicians needed to assist with Cerulean Warbler research in Yellowwood and Morgan-Monroe state forests near Bloomington, Indiana from May 1, 2023 through approximately mid to late July, 2023. This is a continuing research project of Dr. Kamal Islam that contributes to vital monitoring of this migratorial bird species.

Job Function:

Two field technicians are needed to assist with Cerulean Warbler research in Yellowwood and Morgan-Monroe state forests near Bloomington, Indiana from approximately May 1, 2023 through mid- to late July 2023.

Minimum Education:

Must have or be working towards degree in Wildlife Ecology or related field.

Preferred Education:

B.S. in Wildlife Ecology or related field.

Minimum Experience:

Must have valid driver's license and field gear.

Preferred Experience:

Ability to follow directions and work well both independently and in groups. Ability to endure long workdays beginning at sunrise, hike several miles per day on steep, uneven terrain, and work in hot, humid conditions with ticks, chiggers, poison ivy, and the occasional rattlesnake.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct point count surveys and intensive nest searching and monitoring. During point counts, technicians will record the locations of Cerulean Warblers, Brown-headed Cowbirds, Blue Jays, and American Crows and must know or be able to quickly learn the vocalizations of these birds.
  • Perform territory mapping.
  • Perform intensive nest searching and monitoring.
  • Conduct vegetation surveys.
  • Accurately perform data entry.
  • Perform re-sighting for color-banded individuals, and assist with banding efforts.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
