Our 13 Week Periop Residency program is open, and we are looking for Registered Nurses to enroll. Perioperative nursing provides the opportunity to work in a variety of surgical cases while working with a team of professionals delivering care to one patient at a time. The Perioperative nurse collaborates with other nursing caregivers to execute the corporate goals and objectives of Cleveland Clinic Martin Health System.  During this program, you will learn about surgical procedures, medical equipment, instrument use, critical thinking, and communication skills. Our program utilizes:

- Classroom training and simulation.

- Precepted clinical practice in various surgical specialties.

-Mentoring and online learning to prepare you for a successful career in surgical services.

-Practicing under the direction of expert educators and preceptors. 

Our ideal caregiver is someone who has graduated from an accredited nursing program, with: 

-A Bachelor's Degree with a Major in Nursing, preferred.

- 2 years nursing experience.   

-Current/Active State of FL RN License required

- Primary source online verification required directly from the State of Florida Licensing database. 

-Current CPR certification required from the American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider. 

Applicants will be interviewed by a panel of Surgical Services Leaders, Clinical Coordinators and Clinical Education Consultant. Once selected, you will participate in a mandatory 6-hour shadow experience. As a perioperative nurse, you will have accountability and responsibility for providing nursing care to surgical patients at one of the following facilities: North Martin Medical Center, Martin Hospital South, and/or Tradition Medical Center.

Participates in a residency curriculum based on surgery core learning needs. Provides direct nursing care, alongside a coach, in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in a residency curriculum based on surgery core learning needs.
  • Provides direct nursing care, alongside a coach, in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
  • Establishes and revises priorities for patient care activities based on; acuity of need, patient preference, and resource availability.
  • Initiates and maintains interventions to assure continuity of safe and effective care for patients.
  • Responds to data indicating risk to individual's health and initiates action to correct, reduce, or prevent the risk.
  • Seeks supervision, consultation, assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Complies with established hospital and department personnel policies.
  • Uses communication strategies that are intended to achieve desirable outcomes and a perception of satisfaction by those involved.
  • Documents in patient's medical record according to established guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • BSN preferred

Languages:

  • N/A

Certifications:

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be presented upon hire.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • New grad or less than one year RN work experience or if experience RN moving from non-inpatient to acute direct care clinical inpatient setting with less than one year current acute direct patient care RN experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
