Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Under direction of supervisor or physician receives and prepares patients for examination or treatment.
  • Performs initial patient examinations, ophthalmic testing procedures and assists physician with related examinations/procedures as directed.
  • May perform routine screening tests.
  • Documents patient information in the patient medical record.
  • Performs clerical, stocking, maintenance and other related duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Earned a High School diploma or GED in the U.S.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred

Languages:

  • English required

Certifications:

  • None required

Competencies (Complexity of Work):

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Prior experience in a customer-facing role; prior experience in a healthcare setting in a patient-facing role preferred
  • Additional formal education or training in ophthalmology may substitute for some or all of the stated experience.
  • Previous experience documenting exam findings in Epic is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical equipment utilized to perform testing procedures.
  • Manual dexterity to perform various exams and hold equipment; good eye-hand coordination; may require long periods of standing and walking.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
