Job Description

Summary

Seeking a qualified RN who can provide PRN clinical research nursing support as needed, which may be overnights, weekends, or day shifts. Within the Office of Clinical Research (OCR), the Clinical Research Center (CRC) provides centralized nursing support to Investigators who conduct a variety of clinical studies at Baylor College of Medicine (Baylor) and/or affiliated hospitals. Seeking a competent level research nurse to provide professional nursing support in both hospital-based in-patient as well as outpatient clinical study units. The ideal candidate for this position will occasionally be required to work after hours, on weekends, and overnight, and travel between BCM and affiliated hospitals within Houston Texas Medical Center. This is a unique opportunity to gain research nursing experience.

 

This is a part-time position working approximately 30 hours per week.

Job Duties

  • Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and customer service.
  • Adheres to the scope of practices as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Schedules study visits and meetings related to studies.
  • Collects study specimens and checks Subjects’ vital signs.
  • Administers study medications.
  • Follows subjects’ progress and advises the Principal Investigator.
  • Maintains patient charts and medical records.
  • Ensures the clinical studies are conducted in accordance with guidelines of the FDA and other regulatory agencies.
  • Educates patients in significant aspects of the study.
  • Serves as a liaison and distributes research information to faculty, research staff, principal investigator, and others as required.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Provides training and guidance to research nurses and other research personnel and serves as a resource to staff.
  • Participates in additional projects as directed by research management as a central office within the Office of Research.
  • Provides cross-coverage across OCR clinical research nursing and study support as needed.
  • Provides clinical research nursing support for clinical trial nursing care requests received in the OCR for study support across the College.
  • Ability to travel between research site locations across the BCM campus. Occasional after-hours/weekend work required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Two years of relevant experience as a licensed Registered Nurse (RN). Degrees in lieu of experience will not be accepted.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oncology experience.
  • Ability to travel between study site locations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
