NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs: If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs. What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a Data Science/Machine Learning Postdoctoral Appointee to join our multi-disciplinary team. You will work in an innovative and collaborative environment to address national security challenges through research and development in data science, computer science, complex systems, autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. You will bring a background in machine learning theory and experience with implementation of algorithms to apply to multiple national security domains. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Brainstorm new approaches to difficult problems. + Publish work results in journals, conference papers, and technical reports. + Analyze and integrate information from multiple sources into a coherent form. + Apply and combine innovative techniques from multiple fields of science. + Work closely with analysts and software engineers to develop models into applications. Qualifications We Require: + Ph.D. conferred within 5 years prior to employment in Computer Science, Mathematics, or closely related field + Experience with applied machine learning, reinforcement learning, physics informed neural networks or a related area + Proven research success, written communication, and presentation skills as evidenced by a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and external presentations at professional scientific conferences + Proficiency in computer programming languages such as Python, Matlab, or Java + Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test Qualifications We Desire: + Proven strong software development skills and familiarity with modern software development methodologies, practices, and tools + Experience working successfully with researchers, analysts, and software engineers + Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to develop technical ideas and results and present them in oral and written form About Our Team: The Complex Systems for National Security Group (Group 5520 in Albuquerque, New Mexico) researches and applies operations research and computer science to analyze, predict and influence the behavior of complex, highly interdependent systems critical to our nation’s security. We provide capabilities motivated by the challenge of understanding, quantifying, and controlling the resilience of key complex systems critical to the laboratories’ National Security mission. The approaches and capabilities we provide are used to address complicated system and enterprise-level challenges facing a diverse set of national security partners. Department 5521, Operations Research and Computational Analysis, is one of four departments in the Group. The department supports a wide variety of internal and external customers through mathematical modeling, analysis, and software development. We develop models and software products in the areas of optimization, simulation, statistics, decision theory, data querying and analysis, knowledge management, embedded systems, situational awareness and sensor data management. Our software development efforts are normally performed by small teams that stay closely involved with users and stakeholders throughout the software life cycle.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship.
