ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer’s Sr Associate Data Engineer role is responsible for supporting projects that apply artificial intelligence methods (statistics, machine learning, optimization, NLP and other analytics) to business data to improve processes, predict outcomes and create actionable insights that streamline global manufacturing, release and distribution operations across over 45 factories worldwide.

Our team, PGS Operations Insights, partners with Pfizer Global Supply (PGS) teams focused on:

  • COVID Vaccine & Paxlovid C-suite executive visibility
  • Manufacturing throughput efficiency and increased manufacturing yield
  • Reduction of end-to-end cycle time and higher percent release attainment
  • Increased quality control lab throughput and more timely closure of quality investigations
  • Increased manufacturing yield
  • More cost-effective network planning decisions and lowered inventory costs

The Sr Associate Data Engineer will help PGS achieve these efficiencies by delivering clean, clear, and complete data from Pfizer’s many source systems to support predictive and prescriptive insights via custom-built web applications tailored to the needs of manufacturing, quality and supply chain end users.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The position requires a keen interest in the people and in the processes driving global supply chains, manufacturing and quality control for global biopharmaceutical operations, with much focus on individual users and their needs. It’s no secret that our team’s success to date is largely due to our rigorous policy of hiring only big-hearted people who enjoy collaboration.  Your strength as an internal consultant will enable you to:

  • Engage with Business colleagues, Product Manager and Solution Delivery functions to define your product’s roadmap and feature requirements. Translate roadmap and feature requirements into specific technical requirements.
  • Unite the business and technical stakeholders by communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders and non-technical information to your technical team.
  • Build relationships with customers and business functions – translate their needs into specific technical requirements. 

Your expertise as a data engineer and rapid acquisition of domain/data expertise will enable you to unify disparate data sets to simplify interpretation and analysis by end users.  You will use data engineering skills to:

  • Identify relationships between manufacturing processes and disparate information systems.
  • Identify opportunities for insights – simulate and test the most promising approaches.
  • Integrate new data and relationships into the PGS Knowledge Graph schema.
  • Build robust data pipelines and models to integrate into user-facing apps
  • In collaboration with team members, document people-process-technology maps that guide analytic approaches to business problems.

You will participate in an Agile team of business experts, full-stack developers, and UX/UI designers to build custom web applications with embedded analytics and to deliver your apps to thousands of end users globally.  In this focused role, you will:

  • Assist the team above through Agile Product development cycle, including planning, task definition, assignment, prioritization, and retrospectives.
  • In collaboration with the Scrum Master, ensure work tasks are completed on schedule to a high-quality standard & within configuration guideline.
  • Contribute to conversations with User Experience (UX) designers to align visualizations to complex product data. 
  • Collaborate with a DevOps team to ensure that your data pipelines have the necessary infrastructure resources to serve users with the needed level of availability, while also meeting Pfizer’s internal policies.
  • Support all aspects of your product’s agile lifecycle, including maintaining appropriate documentation, supporting end user requests, analyzing/reviewing/testing code, and where needed, supporting system validation activities.
  • Manage work tasks assigned, quickly raising risks & issues to the team. 
  • Continuously support a collaborative team environment and improve work processes – integrate your contracted workforce into the overall product team in daily scrums.
  • Deliver working data pipelines that enables end users to benefit from data science insights.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science or related discipline & 3+ years of experience in similar role or field OR MS/MBA degree in Business Analytics, Computer Science, or related discipline and 1 year of experience in similar role/field
  • Demonstrable knowledge of at least two of the following: Product Ownership, Database Administration, Data Engineering, Programming (e.g. Python, SQL)
  • Data Engineering, Programming (e.g. Python, SQL)
  • Experience working with relational and/or graph databases, BI, Analytics, Big Data
  • Agile mindset - ability to shift priorities quickly and adjust to changing business needs
  • Good written and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate business and technical points to colleagues
  • Experience and/or ability and willingness to work on diverse teams across the globe

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with system and product lifecycles from value analysis, business case development, solution development and deployment through value realization and hyper care
  • Ability to work with an Agile team, including experience with Jira and Jira Align

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Travel Requirements are project based. Estimated percentage of travel to support project and departmental activities is 20% depending upon the phase of any specific project (and pandemic conditions).
