Job Description
Summary
Consumption of fruits and vegetables is critical to maintaining our health and wellbeing and is associated with a decreased risk of developing a broad range of chronic diseases. Research projects in the Dzakovich Lab at the CNRC are focused on defining how genetic and environmental conditions affect the chemical composition of fruits and vegetables and how these changes alter the efficacy by which they may benefit human health. Under the supervision of Dr. Michael Dzakovich (USDA-ARS/BCM), the laboratory helper will assist with maintenance and organization of laboratory/greenhouse spaces and help execute experiments.
Job Duties
- Maintains and organizes laboratory and greenhouse spaces.
- Cleans laboratory equipment.
- Conducts laboratory and greenhouse research that Includes, but not limited to, soil based or soilless (e.g. hydroponics) plant production, makes nutrient solutions, harvests plant tissues.
- Prepares samples for analysis.
- Extracts chemicals from plant tissues.
- Documents and summarizes experimental outcomes.
- Assists with maintenance and organization of laboratory/greenhouse spaces.
- Helps execute experiments.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with growing and maintaining plants.
- Familiarity with common laboratory equipment (e.g. pipettes).
- Statistics and/or bioinformatics experience using environments such as R or Linux.
