Job Description
The Residential Colleges Senior Fellow/Faculty Steward/Faculty-in-Residence (FIR) program has had positive impacts at enhancing student/faculty relations by offering faculty members, and their families, a fully furnished apartment in Dunham College. By shifting interaction and offering opportunities within a common living/learning environment, the Residential Colleges Senior Fellow/Faculty Steward/Faculty-in- Residence program helps to counteract social and intellectual isolation for the hall’s residents.
Senior Fellow/Faculty Steward/Faculty-in-Residence Responsibilities:
Goals
- Support the academic mission of the University of Oklahoma
- Lead in shaping the intellectual life of residents
- Promote inclusive communities wherein students of all backgrounds feel comfortable Encourage broad (insert SA pillars for curriculum)
- Serve as a mentor for residents
- Refer residents for help with academic and personal concerns when appropriate
Expectations
- Attend move-ins, programs, and/or student functions each semester as appropriate
- Minimum of one meeting each week with the Academic and Community Coordinator(s)
- Have one meal each week with College Council Executive Leadership Team in Residential College Dining Hall
- Coordinate with Residential College staff to plan events as outlined in the “Programming” section of this document.
- Get to know the Residential College residents
- Responsibilities will not include acting in loco parentis or as an authority figure, police officer, disciplinarian, or Resident Assistant
- Solicit and participate in the selection of Faculty Fellows Expectations
Programming
- Offer 3 educational programs each semester, and at least one large event at the FIR apartment each month. It is anticipated that the Senior Fellow/Faculty Steward/Faculty-in-Residence will exceed the minimum programming requirements each semester. Events may include co- sponsoring/hosting guest speakers, faculty colleagues, etc.
- Facilitate and lead faculty programming provided by Senior Fellow/Faculty Steward/Faculty-In-Residence and the Faculty Fellows. Faculty Fellows expected to offer one educational and social program per semester
Other Areas of Responsibility
- Event Scheduling-work with the Residential College Team to ensure space is available and set-up is requested
- Monitor the FIR and Faculty Fellow budgets
Terms of Contract
The Senior Fellow/Faculty Steward/Faculty-in-Residence position is a 5-year commitment as follows:
- Year 1: Incoming Faculty in Residence- Elect (not in residence);
- Years 2-4: Faculty in Residence (in residence);
- Year 5: Faculty in Residence Mentor

- Full-time Instructional Faculty Status or equivalent as determined by the Provost
- Approval from Dean or Equivalent
- Prior experience engaging students outside of the classroom
- Demonstrated interest in the undergraduate residential educational experience
- Knowledgeable of general academic requirements, procedures, and campus resources
