Job Description

A research position (Post-doctoral or Associate Research Scientist) is immediately available in
the laboratory of Dr. Richard Pierce. The Pierce Lab is a small group working on highly translational
mechanisms of vascular dysfunction in the setting of acute critical illness. We utilize samples from
critically ill children to identify genetic and molecular targets to investigate in cultured primary human
endothelial cells and ev vivo perfused organs. Open projects involved investigating the interrogating
the signaling cascades leading to endothelial permeability changes in human endothelial cell cultures.

We are seeking self-motivated applicants with competence in cellular and molecular biology
techniques. Extra consideration will be given to candidates that demonstrate expertise in endothelial
cell culture, manipulation of human cells with si/shRNA, immunoblotting and pull-down assays, RTPCR/
RNA-sequencing analysis and confocal and electron microscopy. It is expected that applicants
can work at the bench independently, interpret data, and troubleshoot experiments. Due to the
translational aspect of our research, passion, creativity and communication skills are required.
