Job Description

Summary

The postdoctoral associate will be in charge of their own research project that is relevant to the lab's studies on maternal diabetes, pancreatic cancer, and/or neural tube defects. This will likely be an offshoot of an extant lab member's project. They will work heavily with mice and/or cells, sequencing, bioinformatics, and microscopy, but in general will be independent in choosing the methods by which to perform their experiments. They will report weekly to the P.I. and about once a month to the lab on their progress towards their research goal(s).

Job Duties

  • Performs in vivo and in vitro experiments.
  • Maintains mouse colonies and/or cell lines.
  • Conducts genotyping on mouse colonies and/or cell lines.
  • Euthanizes mice.
  • Collects murine tissues (including embryos) and performs murine surgery.
  • Performs experiments with chick eggs are also possible.
  • Uses cell and/or murine tissue for experiments.
  • Processes collected murine tissues and/or cells.
  • Performs immunofluorescent staining on murine tissues and/or cells and performs Western blots on murine tissues and/or cells.
  • Conducts imaging via fluorescence and/or confocal microscopy, sequencing murine tissues.
  • Performs flow cytometry.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.
