Position Summary

Responsible for the efficient supervision of the Sterile Processing staff, supply order and inventory in accordance with established policies and procedures. Maintains inventory, repair and quality logs related to endoscopes. Ensures all sterilization and HLD processes are being followed in accordance to established practices at COH. Monitors and reviews case cart processes to ensure all instrumentation is sterile and available for use in the clinical areas.

Key Responsibilities include:

Supervision of Staff

  • Provides direct supervision of Sterile Processing staff including the monitoring of daily activities, schedules and work volume.
  • Prepares work schedules, assigns personnel, evaluates work performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Directs staff and prioritizes workload.
  • Directs staff in the absence of the Sterile Processing Manager.
  • Provides oversight and direction to the SPD Lead Tech.
  • Addresses employee relation concerns and resolves conflict within the department.

Department Workflow

  • Oversees the daily work functions throughout the department while ensuring efficient throughput of instruments and scopes.
  • Develops daily work assignments to meet operational demands.
  • Problem solves instrument conflicts.

Quality Assurance

  • Monitors all required documentation for QA Test (i.e. Biologicals and Bowie – Dicks) and Non-Sterile Warning Reports on a daily basis.
  • Performs routine QA and performance audits of staff members and department.
  • Participates in performance and process improvement activities.
  • Assists in implementing process changes in the department.

Customer Service

  • Provides on-going communication with medical center staff to meet their instrumentation and scope needs.
  • Communicates with surgical staff to meet surgical patient and procedural demands.

Endoscopes

  • Monitors practices and processes associated with scope inventory, reprocessing, storage and handling throughout the organization and coordinates repairs as needed.

Inventory Control / Repairs

  • Researches, assesses product selection, and obtains price quotes from various vendors for requested/required instruments, minor equipment and scopes.
  • Orders SPD supplies, surgical instrumentation, minor equipment and scopes while maintaining expenses to acceptable budgetary limitations.
  • Responsible for the coordination of repairs related to instrumentation, minor equipment and scopes.
  • Facilitates the preparation of information for capital purchases related to instrumentation, minor equipment and scopes.
  • Communicates with vendors on inventory discrepancies.
  • Coordinates the de-casing of supplies and restocking of shelves in SPD.

Instrument Set Maintenance

  • Maintains an accurate inventory of instrument sets and scopes in the instrument tracking system. Acts as a liaison between Surgery and SPD to provide routine maintenance to count sheets. Coordinates and provides support in the standardization of instrument sets.

Information Technology

  • Works with systems administrator to coordinate interfaces between information systems related to Sterile Processing.

Performs other duties as assigned

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s Degree. Experience may substitute
  • Five years health care and leadership experience in sterile processing.

Required Certification/Licensure:

  • Must have CRCST certification.
  • BLS through American Heart Association
  • CHL certification (preferred)

Additional Information:

  • Job Status: Full-time, exempt
  • Shift: Evenings, 3:00pm - 11:00pm
  • As a condition of employment, City of Hope requires staff to comply with all state and federal vaccination mandates.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $33.80 - $56.45 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
