What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee
- Synthetic Materials & Chemistry to join the Biological and Chemical Sensors team conducting research related to national and global security. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Plan, synthesize, and characterize novel organic and inorganic compounds and nanomaterials + Partner with experts in other fields including electrochemistry, physics, and engineering, to propose a rational basis of understanding of phenomena for novel materials + Follow the scientific method in addressing specific questions related to the use of new materials in critical applications + Communicate and document findings in reports and peer-reviewed journals + Perform all duties in compliance with operational safety, security and quality guidelines including handling radioactive materials + Work both independently and in a team environment + Mentor undergraduate and/or graduate interns in an R&D setting Qualifications We Require: + PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science or related field + Proven oral and written communication skills as evidenced through a record of scientific presentations and/or peer-reviewed publications + Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance Qualifications We Desire: + PhD in Synthetic Chemistry + Experience with air-free techniques such as Schlenk lines, gloveboxes, and vacuum apparatuses + Experience in the preparation and purification of organic/inorganic compounds, nanomaterials, and polymers + Experience working with radioactive materials + Knowledge, understanding, and experience in characterization techniques including multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, TEM, SEM, TGA/DSC, UV-Vis, FT-IR, and XRD + Proven ability to interact with all members of the team, strong documentation and organizational habits, and communication methods that enable cooperation and success within a dynamic and complex work environment About Our Team: The Biological and Chemical Sensors Department at Sandia National Laboratories specializes in miniature sensors and sensor-based system for a variety of sensing applications including chemical, biological, and explosives. These sensors and systems can be built into wearable, handheld, UAV, or fixed/installed formats. We have a strong emphasis on nano, micro, and mesoscale fabrication in our R&D including the capability to integrate custom electronics developed in Sandia's MESA facility. We also have state-of-the-art microbiology capabilities to aid in biological sensor development. Our technologies are designed to be non-invasive or minimally invasive, and easy to use in the field or at the point of care.

Security Clearance:
