As a Laboratory Technician III, you will be responsible for specific laboratory specimens, orders, and information disposition. You will be performing and demonstrating an understanding of laboratory testing as well as technical and procedural problem solving. Working closely with our collaborative team, you will perform specimen investigation procedures to resolve lab specimen issues or problems. Your primary duties will include:

-Performing analytic tests and procedures.
-Monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations.
-Performing phlebotomy, histology and surgical pathology laboratory functions.
-Resolving and providing consultation for any procedural or technical problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs assigned analytical tests and procedures according to established and approved protocols.
  • Procures, receives, and processes specimens prior to testing.
  • Monitors test analyses and specimen examinations.
  • Performs assigned analytical tests and procedures according to established and approved protocols.
  • Performs accessioning to include sterile specimen handling techniques when needed.
  • Ensures compliance of all regulatory standards.
  • Maintains instrumentation and equipment.
  • Resolves and communicates procedural and technical problems.
  • Recognizes procedural and technical problems and takes corrective action within guidelines.
  • Performs duties of a Pediatric phlebotomist as required.
  • Procures, receives and processes specimens prior to testing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Associate's degree in medical technology or histotechnology from an accredited institution or equivalent course work and eligibility from a recognized national certifying organization.
  • Five years of progressive lab experience may substitute for required education.

Certifications:

  • None required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of medical laboratory or histology technician experience.
  • Additional education or certification may offset required experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include visual acuity to study specimens under a microscope and the ability to distinguish colors; manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment; may require extended periods of sitting, standing and walking.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
