NCI funded Postdoctoral position is available at The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) in Bar Harbor, Maine working under the direct supervision of Research Scientist Dr. Vishnu Hosur in the Shultz Lab to generate and validate humanized mouse models of cancer using novel gene-editing technologies. This position is ideally suited for an individual with a strong background in molecular biology (CRISPR/Cas) and next-generation sequencing methods. This position enables opportunities to learn basic skills in mammalian genetics. We seek motivated candidates, with Ph.D., MD, or DVM degree, who will be eager to take advantage of the unique opportunities available at JAX to advance their careers by combining existing molecular biology expertise with unparalleled mammalian genetics/genetic engineering training. Emphasis is placed on training the next generation of scientific leaders through the JAX Whole Scientist Program. Exceptional candidates can show early independence through the JAX Scholars Program. JAX has a vibrant and interactive research community with unparalleled mouse resources and state of the art facilities for BSL2 studies, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, monoclonal antibody development, imaging science, and genome technologies. Required Skills:

A background in molecular biology is required. We value the ability to plan, execute and analyze an independent research project as well as exceptional verbal, written communication skills, adaptability, and desire for lifelong learning.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D., M.D., or DVM in cell biology, molecular biology, genetics related life sciences is required.
  • Previous experience in cell culture, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, next-generation genome sequencing assays especially single cell transcriptomics is desirable.
  • Experience with R, Python or similar statistical package is desirable.
  • Candidates should have a publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with other members in a productive team.
